The Elusive Crane is an engaging quest introduced in Fallout 76 as part of the Wastelanders update. Players must follow clues to locate a hidden treasure while dealing with the fallout of Roper's gang and Crane's tragic fate. Navigating through mines, security doors, and automated systems makes this quest a memorable journey across the Forest region.

Starting the Search in Gauley Mine

After interrogating and dealing with Crane at The Wayward, players obtain keycard access and a map containing crucial security codes. You must head directly to Gauley Mine and follow the railway tracks deeper into the subterranean tunnels. Following the path leads past hostile enemies until you discover a locked security cage and a keypad.

Unlocking the cage requires entering the passcode 071990 derived from Crane's map. Inside, you can swipe the keycard to access the entrance of RobCo Auto-Cache #001. This opens up the hidden installation where the rumored treasure is secured.

Navigating RobCo Auto-Cache #001

Upon entering the facility, players must register their Pip-Boy using the terminal in the main office area. Registering your device is necessary to clear security protocols and interact with the primary vault doors. Defeat any remaining robots or pests guarding the hallways before advancing into the main chamber.

Once registered, standing near the scanner area allows the vault door to recognize your Pip-Boy signal and open automatically. Inside the cache room, you will find special coin tokens on a display podium. These tokens allow you to claim a high-tier legendary weapon from the dispensing terminals.

Claiming Rewards and Completing the Quest

After selecting your preferred weapon reward using the cache token, your primary objectives within the mine are complete. Make your way back out of Gauley Mine and return to The Wayward to brief Duchess. She will acknowledge your efforts and grant you a permanent vendor discount at her bar.

Finishing this storyline unlocks further narrative content across Appalachia, allowing players to progress toward late-game factions and events. Proper preparation and paying attention to code clues ensures a smooth playthrough without getting stuck at locked cache doors.
